This quote from JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings seems to be a bit contradictory. It seems that Sam is telling his father that he is a great listener and a good listener. However, Frodo tells Sam that he should not make fun of his father which means that he was not a good listener. The one thing that Sam did right was to tell his father that he should not make fun of him while he could have just left his father alone.
